I was very pleased with how my birthday party went on the weekend. All my guests were very impressed with the food and were asking for your details. I especially loved the scallops, crab tartlets and croquettes. Your staff were excellent too. They assisted beautifully to help set up and then made sure that they served to all groups. My family were very happy with the service as they were sitting outside and your staff ensured they were well looked after too.

From start to finish, you and your staff were very easy to deal with and nothing appeared to be too much trouble. The Shire of Kondinin was fortunate to have the lovely Sophie Budd back in Kondinin to cook up a cracker feed at the Kondinin Community Garden inaugural ‘Gourmet in the Kondinin’ in March 2018.

This event was run by the Shire of Kondinin in conjunction with the volunteers of the Kondinin Community Garden. After several years in the making the old Kondinin swimming pool site has turned into a quirky and productive garden with an artistic edge, the perfect setting for a dinner on a beautiful autumn evening in the Wheatbelt. Arriving in her van at 10.00am, equipped with utensils Sophie took no time in getting started by guiding her local helpers in the art of preparing the food for the evening meal using freshly picked vegetables, herbs and fruit from the community garden. Meanwhile the local hogget was cooking slowly on the spit, whilst the yabbies caught locally were delivered freshly peeled.

As the sun was set the guests arrived at the community garden for pre-dinner drinks in the beautifully decorated community garden and then at 7.00pm were lead into the marquee to be seated and served a delicious meal of salt bush risotto, roasted hogget with mint and shallots complimented with Sophie’s special focaccia and a selection of salads. Making use of the abundance of rhubarb in the community garden and freshly supplied farm eggs, Sophie whipped up an amazing rhubarb trifle for dessert. During the evening meal Sophie was assisted by five enthusiastic local teenagers, which meant in between cooking the risotto and serving up the hogget Sophie was able to mingle with the guests and also provide a short presentation of what she had cooked and the local ingredients that she had used.

The marquee was fully seated with 80 guests from across the district. As one guest said ‘Kondinin your community garden is fantastic! And Sophie Budd eating that yabbie risotto was an experience in itself. It had to be one of the best dishes I have ever had!’ At the end of the evening, the fire drums were lit, the music continued to play and many stayed and chatted with Sophie on all sorts of topics into the night.

This was a fantastic event for Kondinin, so much so we have booked Sophie in again for March next year – this time to cook in the Italian theme!TORY YOUNG from Shire of Kondinin

Jade did most of the liaising but I didn’t hear anything other than how easy it was to get this organised

Absolutely! Everyone had a great time.

– What was the overall feedback from the participants?

I’d like to think that the most memorable part of our 3 days was one of the sessions, perhaps when our CEO came to speak to the group. But alas, the cooking challenge was definitely THE BIGGEST HIT! Grads were posting about it on our Yammer page (internal Rio Tinto social media) and just about each person that spoke to a grad heard that the highlight was the cooking challenge. I was a bit nervous going in that it wouldn’t please everyone (and maybe some people hated it, but if they did we didn’t hear about it), but you and your team did not disappoint.

– Would you use Taste Budds again?

Organising a wedding for most of us is a stressful and chaotic event let alone organising it from 900kms away! On 4th October 2014 my husband and I tied the knot up in Carnarvon at my families plantation. It was a wonderful day and we were very lucky to have the fabulous team from Taste Budds do our catering. The menu was exceptional and the food delicious, using all locally grown produce. Sophie was fabulous to work with and pretty much organised all of the food options for our wedding. If you are unsure as to who should be catering your next function I would stop searching and choose Taste budds Cooking Studio. Sophie Budd and her team at Taste budds Cooking Studio went above and beyond for our wedding reception and created a culinary feast for the senses. From the outset Sophie was very helpful and thorough in her communication with us, leading up to the event day we did not have any major setbacks due to Sophie’s organizational skills and prompt responses. She is a pleasure to work with, and her team did an amazing job with a venue that was not prepared and lacked a lot of amenity required for their level of catering. The staff during the night were engaged and did not stop, guests at weddings can be very demanding, but Sophie’s staff were on top of everything from cleaning up to service and responding to various requests. The food on the night was stupendous…there aren’t really any adjectives to describe it. If you are seeking a unique and customized menu experience, you’ve approached the right person.

We are so glad to have stumbled across Sophie, she is a remarkable human being, and an amazing Chef, her team naturally follow suit.

Sophie and her entire team were amazing! Sophie was open to any ideas or suggestions that we had and was really easy to communicate with. They were fantastic on the night of my wedding. They took care of all the food and it made for a stress-free night. Her team were very attentive and made sure everyone, no matter what their dietary requirements, had something to eat. We even had one guest who sprung on us last minute that she was allergic to onions (ruling out a lot of things). The Taste Budds team noticed that she was passing up all the canapes and paella and whipped her up something special, so she didn’t miss out. The food was amazing! “Sophie catered a Christmas inJuly dinner for 18 people at my apartment complex . Right from the start when I emailed my query to the finish everything went like clockwork. I had my specific menu requests which she catered for without any difficulty. She was flexible and accommodated everything I wanted .
